I didn't want to just do a blog post to review a web 2.0 tool. I thought it might ruin the vibe of my blog. Not that my blog has a particularly cool vibe or anything. So I decided to bury it in with some other stuff that (in my opinion) is pretty cool. I put it in list form for your reading benefit. Here you go.
1. Cool Video - Ukelele Kid
My dad recommended this to me. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.
2. Cool Web 2.0 Tool
It being the season for giving and all I thought I would check out Donors Choose. This is an online charity site that allows to select a specific classroom project to donate money to. A teacher provides a short description of a need and a dollar amount. The site takes donations and if they receive the required amount of money, they fund the teacher's request. You can sort by state, city, and even school, so if you wanted to see if any of the local schools have made a request you can do so. The site does not accept actual supplies, not money, but it provides a few links to sites that do on its help page if you would rather go that route. At first I thought this was a really nice idea. Then I thought, "Wait a minute, this means I have to look through all these projects and decide which one I think is most deserving." I think this might make me feel guilty in the long run, especially since some of the projects have deadlines and I don't think they get any money if they don't reach their goals. I searched for a random donation option, but could not find one. I guess I might just have to donate to several.
3. Cool Website of Lists
I found this website while randomly searching the internet. Its just a bunch of lists. Some of them are pretty good, some of them are not so good. There is more than just lists on the site, but I am fond of lists so that is what I was drawn to. Here are a couple of my favorites.
I can't give the title of this list because it is not work appropriate
(The last one on this list made me laugh for at least a minute)
(It's a fill in the blank so you have to plug the list items into the title)
The Endings of 10 Famous Novels You Always Meant to Read but Never Got Around To
4. Cool Concert - Bon Iver
One of the coolest things I did in 2009 was drive to Milwaukee with my roommate and a couple other people to see an artist called Bon Iver. The venue was the Riverside Theater, one of the nicest places I have ever been for a concert. Here is a video from the concert (I did not film it). Since I'm sure it violates some kind of copyright law, I won't post it here. Even though I am not a fan of illegally recording things, I am a fan of being able to rewatch something you saw live. The drums may seem like a little bit of overkill, but with the acoustics of the theater they sounded amazing.
